The Greifswald Cathedral Choir

Welcome to the Greifswald Cathedral Choir!
As an ensemble cooperating with the Department of Sacred Music and Musicology, the Greifswald Cathedral Choir makes an important contribution towards the training of students studying sacred music. It emerged from the St Nikolai church choir after 1945.
In addition to performing in cathedral services, the choir is primarily dedicated to choral symphonic music. Under its founder Hans Pflugbeil (1946-1974), the leadership of Manfred Schlenker (1975-1987) and their successors through to Jochen A. Modeß (1993-2018), the major works of Johann Sebastian Bach have always been at the centre of its recitals.
However, the choir also sings compositions from the entire spectrum of sacred music (most recently, for example, Monteverdi: Vespers; Handel: Messiah; Mendelssohn: St Paul, Elijah; Loewe: The Seven Sleepers, Job; Lloyd Webber: Requiem; Schnittke: Requiem; Modeß: Christmas Moratorium; Verdi: Requiem).
The choir is currently conducted by Prof. Frank Dittmer.
