Harald Braun studied German language and literature, psychology and school music at the Hanover University of Music and Drama (First State Examination in 1998), followed by choral conducting and conducting (A-Diplom in 2001). While still a student, he trained choral conductors for the choral associations and the State Music Council of Niedersachsen and conducted his first oratorio and music theatre performances in addition to choral and orchestral concerts. His training was rounded off by attending masterclasses with Frieder Bernius, Eric Ericson and Kurt Hofbauer, among others. From 1999 to 2004, Harald Braun taught choral and orchestral conducting at the Institute for Music and Musicology at the University of Hildesheim and was head of the choral department at the Kreismusikschule Cloppenburg. In 2004, Harald Braun was appointed University Music Director at the University of Greifswald. Since then, he has conducted the University Choir, Chamber Choir, University Symphony Orchestra and Collegium musicum at the University of Greifswald and trains music students at the Department of Sacred Music and Musicology in the subjects of conducting, score playing and music theory. Concert tours have taken him to Germany, Poland, France, Kenya, Greece, Russia, Israel, Sweden, South Africa, Portugal and Brazil. From 2007 to 2017, Harald Braun was President of the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Choral Association (CMV) on a voluntary basis and has been a member of the Executive Committee of the German Choral Association (DCV) since 2009. During this time, he founded the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern State Youth Choir together with Daniel Arnold and reformed choral conducting training.
